Let’s dive into the mind of your customer and see what they want in a tradie

A recent study by True Local (a directory you should be listed in) revealed that 2 out of 3 Aussies didn’t really know what they’d look for in a tradie. Seriously! They couldn’t even come up with the basic ideas of being on time, being polite, and being qualified! I guess it’s something people never think about.

But the one thing they did mention, is that they’d look at reviews on the internet. It’s a different world now. People trust what they read online – true or not – it’s there for them to read.

Reviews show the public that others have tried and ‘approved’ your services, and give you credibility.

Constant phone calls are like a possum in a roof…

Annoying, disruptive and a total pain in the butt.

It’s a cut-throat world where everyone expects instant service. And when it comes to finding a tradie, most people are at the desperate stage.

Think about it. When do clients call you? When they’ve got a major water leak – a tap exploded, a pipe burst, their hot water system blew up. When they’ve got no electricity so they can’t cook dinner, or worse – they have no internet. When little Johnny has tried to flush an entire roll of loo paper and clogged the system…Clients usually need fast attention.

But it’s not always easy to answer your phone. You’re in a dusty, hot roof space. You’re under a spider webby, very squishy floor space. Your hand is shoved down a pipe. You’re up a ladder playing with wires…

Tradies who follow up on their quotes are more likely to secure the customer.

 

Put yourself in your customer’s shoes for a tick. They’ve probably called you because they really, really need you – a blocked loo, a smoke detector beeping (that drives you crazy), new lights needed, a leaking tap…

Communicating with your clients is vital to gaining their trust and business. Regardless of whether you’ve given a written or verbal quote, it is so important that you follow up with either an email or phone call within 24 hours (earlier if possible). Think about it, they have done a search, found you and really need help. If you don’t appear responsive or interested, they’ll go to the next person on their list.
